Top Trade Ideas - March 25th
The team reviews equity, currency and commodity markets to bring you our top 10 watches as a new week begins.
US equity markets batted away any potential FOMC concerns last week, pretty much landing themselves a home run with the dovish comments and the rip higher. The week ahead sees a slightly less intense calendar.
In G10 FX, the host of central bank meetings kept us very busy. Despite the dovish tilt from the US Fed, the DXY ended the week higher, spurred on by losses from GBP, JPY and CHF.
As usual, the team has curated 10 ideas that we are watching this week across equities, currencies and commodities. If you are new around here (or you’ve never tried our premium articles), you can access a 14-day trial here. Equities
Occidental Petroleum (NYSE: OXY) has become synonymous as a ‘Buffett stock’. The Oracle of Omaha has an average price of $50. The company engages in hydrocarbon exploration and petrochemical manufacturing.
While price has stayed rangebound for two years now, there might be a move towards the upper end of the range soon. Price closed last week above the downtrend, signalling a potential continuation higher. We’re going long on this move, and also to add exposure to the sector.
TRADE IDEA - OXY LONG
Entry: 63.80
Stop Loss: 61.00
Take Profit: 68.00
YPF Sociedad Anonima (NYSE: YPF) Argentine energy company, engaged in oil and gas exploration and production. This is a name we have had our eye on for a while, and hold a long term position in.
But taking a look back at the chart, we see an opportunity to go long. With price closing higher than the previous swing higher (18.75), we may see a strong continued move higher. Taking a longer-term view, we’ll be targeting 26.00.
TRADE IDEA - YPF HOLD
Entry: 20.20
Stop Loss: 17.80
Take Profit: 26.00
